Epic Games is shutting down its video chat service, Houseparty, the company said Thursday. Epic acquired the app back in 2019.

“Since joining Epic, the social vision and core technology of the Houseparty team have already contributed to new features used by hundreds of millions of people on Fortnite and developers around the world,” reads. one in the announcement from the developers of Housparty. “As a result, we cannot give the app or our community the attention it deserves. While Houseparty may be gone, we hope the memories you have created will last a lifetime.”

The app itself will be immediately removed from the app stores and shut down in October. Existing users will still be able to log in and use the service before that date, including Fortnite players who use Fortnite Home Party, which was unveiled less than a year ago. This mode should disappear completely from Fortnite once Houseparty closes in October.

The Houseparty team claims that since the app was created in 2016, tens of millions of people have used it to stream videos. Additional updates on the shutdown will come via an in-app notification, its creators said.
